CCAP: Lending a Helping Hand Across Rhode Island

unnamed (13)

For more than 60 years, Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) has helped Rhode Island individuals and families access health care, education, food assistance and other essential services.

CCAP traces its beginnings to 1965, when the Cranston Community Action Program was incorporated following the federal Economic Opportunity Act and the nation’s War on Poverty. As its programs expanded beyond Cranston, the organization adopted the name Comprehensive Community Action in 1994 while retaining the familiar CCAP initials.

Today, CCAP is one of Rhode Island’s largest community action agencies, serving more than 40,000 people annually. Its programs include family medicine, dental and behavioral health services, WIC nutrition assistance, Head Start and child care, youth education and job training, family development programs, food assistance, rental and fuel assistance, weatherization and other social services.

CCAP primarily serves communities including Cranston, Warwick, Coventry, Scituate and Foster, while a number of its programs reach residents in additional Rhode Island cities and towns or operate statewide.

Its mission centers on helping people overcome poverty and social barriers through education, advocacy and access to quality health and human services.

For Rhode Islanders facing difficult circumstances, CCAP continues to provide what its longtime message promises: “A Helping Hand.”
