Gamache’s Overtime Winner Keeps Providence Hockey Unbeaten
Graham Gamache scored in overtime Friday night to keep Providence College’s men’s hockey team unbeaten, completing a 3–2 comeback victory over Union in Schenectady, New York.
The winning goal came 3:14 into the extra period at M&T Bank Center, according to the box score. Logan Sawyer and Quinn Mantei assisted as the Friars improved to 3–0–0.
Providence’s game report says this is the program’s first 3–0 start since the 2022–23 season. The victory also extended the Friars’ road winning streak to ten games, stretching back to last season.
Sawyer gave Providence a lead at 2:56 of the opening period. Union answered through Alex Laurenza later in the first, then moved ahead when Nathan Free scored with 2:02 remaining in the second period.
Jonathan Fauchon tied the game at 12:46 of the third, with Andrew Centrella and Tanner Adams earning assists. That goal sent the teams toward an overtime finish rather than a first Providence defeat.
Goaltender Jack Parsons helped preserve the opportunity. Providence credited him with a breakaway save against Tyler Dunbar forty seconds into overtime, before Gamache supplied the winner.
The box score lists 32 saves for Parsons and 29 for Union’s Brayden Gillespie. Union held a 34–32 edge in shots, while Providence won 34 of the game’s 60 faceoffs. Neither team scored on the power play.
Providence, ranked seventh and eighth in the two national polls, now turns toward Hockey East competition. The Friars begin a home-and-home series against UMass Lowell on October 23 at the Tsongas Center. Providence College Athletics
