Update: the organizer confirms a weather postponement from the previously reported October 16 date.

Newport’s Pumpkin Regatta has moved to Friday, October 23, giving would-be racers and spectators a new date for the waterfront fundraiser.

Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard’s official event page says the gathering was rescheduled from October 16 because of weather. The revised program runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at the shipyard, 1 Washington Street. Newport Buzz’s updated October 16 report also lists the new date.

Earlier listings had advertised October 16. Anyone who saved that date should update their plans and use the organizer’s current page for registration details, including the team signup deadline.

The event benefits Sail Newport, the nonprofit public sailing organization based at Fort Adams State Park. Teams race across the shipyard basin in oversized fiberglass pumpkin boats, with costumes contributing to the spectacle.

The shipyard lists a $25 cost per racer and asks teams to have four or five members. People attending for food and beverages can purchase a $25 bracelet.

Entries should reach the Dock Office or the online signup form by 1 p.m. October 23. Awards recognize the fastest team and best costumes, while a silent auction closes at 6 p.m. The organizer says auction winners do not need to be present.

Sail Newport provides public sailing instruction and rental programs, with a mission of making the sport more accessible and attracting new participants.

For visitors planning an autumn Newport outing, the revised date offers another opportunity to support that work. Check the shipyard’s event page before traveling in case weather requires any changes.
