Newport Seafood Festival Returns October 17–18
Newport’s waterfront will host the 35th annual Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival on October 17 and 18, offering Rhode Islanders a fall getaway centered on local seafood and live music.
The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Admission is free, while food and drinks are purchased separately at vendor booths. Organizers say the event will proceed rain or shine beneath festival tents.
Participating restaurants and fishermen’s associations will serve dishes including lobster rolls, chowder, stuffed quahogs, fish tacos, fried calamari, clams and oysters. Options for children and visitors who prefer other foods will also be available.
Music continues throughout the weekend, with folk, surf rock and blues on the program. Saturday’s lineup includes The Grafters, Motion Ave and Angelus Hall. Sunday features Blistering Ego, Nena Belen and The Ravers.
A portion of proceeds from festival bars will benefit Child & Family.
For travelers planning a day trip, the event provides a reason to revisit Newport after summer. Organizers encourage cycling and will provide bicycle racks near Market Square and the Newport Harbor Hotel parking entrance.
Visitors should budget for meals, review transportation options and check the festival website before heading to the waterfront for their October outing.
