Providence’s buildings are the focus of a monthlong travel opportunity as the Providence Preservation Society continues its Festival of Architecture and Design through October 30.

The 2026 festival marks the society’s 70th anniversary and includes approximately 20 events across five weeks. Programming explores Providence’s history and architecture from the precolonial period to the present.

Among the upcoming offerings are guided visits to Manchester Street Power Station on October 13 and October 20. The station was constructed in 1903 and remains an operating electricity generator, giving visitors an opportunity to examine a familiar part of the city’s skyline.

The tour includes an introductory video tracing the plant’s history, followed by a guided look at the facility. The society’s festival calendar also lists an anniversary cocktail benefit on October 29.

For Rhode Islanders considering a short cultural getaway, the festival offers a focused alternative to a general sightseeing itinerary. Participants can choose a program and build a Providence visit around it, leaving time for nearby dining or attractions.

Because activities take place at different locations, travelers should review each event’s meeting point, admission requirements and availability before booking.

The complete schedule and registration information are available through the Providence Preservation Society’s website.
